What is Karate?
Karate is a martial art and system of self-defense that originated hundreds of years ago in Okinawa. Literally, Karate-do means “the way of the empty hand,” referring to the fact that its practitioners use their hands and feet to attack and defend. Karate is much more than self-defense. Through hard training and practice, Karate develops the body, mind and character.
"The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants."-Master Gichin Funakoshi
What style of Karate do you teach?
At Laurita Martial Arts Academy we teach American Karate. It is a combination of the most effective techniques from traditional Japanese Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Wushu, Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Students can also learn a variety of Weapons. This type of variety offers students a well rounded martial art that is fun and exciting to learn.
What will my child learn?
Again, the ultimate aim of karate is the perfection of character. Every skill a student learns is in some way designed to test and build your child’s character.
Students will learn forms, self-defense, sparring and participate in weapons training.
This is a Black Belt School!
What that means is, our goal for every student is for them to earn their Black Belt. We can’t guarantee a student will earn their Black Belt, however if they follow our curriculum, train hard, never give up and pass all their tests they will earn their Black Belt.

“My son’s self-esteem has greatly improved. He has developed a renewed belief in his abilities and skills because of the things he has learned from you. He used to give up and become frustrated easily. Now, he has determination and even when things do not go his way, he copes with the frustration better. I am very proud of him and very grateful to you for the time you have invested in him” Omar has learned to keep his hands to himself and that hitting others is wrong. Karate has had a positive effect in his interactions with other children.” -Maria Hayes, Mom “Conner’s focus and concentration has improved a lot because of Karate.” -Randy Imhoff, Dad “Jacob is a lot more focused and goal oriented since beginning Karate. He is a lot more confident and shows enthusiasm in everything he does.” |
